Beginning September 2026

Urology Services

Dr. Brandon Stahl will provide comprehensive urologic care for adults at Great River Health's Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington. Planned services range from office-based evaluation to complex robotic, endoscopic, laparoscopic, and open surgery.

Comprehensive Urologic Care

Evaluation and treatment for urinary symptoms, infections, kidney stones, prostate conditions, overactive bladder, incontinence, and urologic cancers in men and women.

Office Procedures

Cystoscopy, transrectal prostate ultrasound and biopsy, vasectomy, and other office-based evaluation and treatment when appropriate.

Kidney Stones

Simple and Complex Stone Care

Treatment will be matched to stone size, location, anatomy, symptoms, infection risk, kidney function, and patient preference.

  • Ureteroscopy with laser lithotripsy
  • Extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL)
  • Percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL)
  • Observation and preventive evaluation when appropriate

Enlarged Prostate

BPH Evaluation and Treatment

Treatment is based on symptoms, bladder emptying, prostate anatomy, overall health, and goals, not prostate size alone.

  • Observation, lifestyle changes, and medication
  • Transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP)
  • GreenLight laser photoselective vaporization of the prostate (PVP)
  • Robotic simple prostatectomy for selected larger prostates

Prostate Evaluation

Expanded Biopsy Options

Expanded diagnostic pathways will be available for patients with elevated PSA or suspicious MRI findings.

  • Office transrectal ultrasound-guided prostate biopsy
  • MRI-ultrasound fusion prostate biopsy
  • Transperineal biopsy, with or without MRI fusion
  • Rectal spacer placement for selected radiation patients

Surgical Care

Robotic, Laparoscopic, and Open Surgery

Minimally invasive surgery will be used when it offers meaningful benefit. Laparoscopic or open surgery remains appropriate in selected situations.

  • Robotic partial nephrectomy
  • Robotic pyeloplasty and ureteral reimplantation
  • Robotic nephroureterectomy
  • Robotic-assisted radical prostatectomy
  • Robotic simple prostatectomy
  • Robotic adrenalectomy
  • Laparoscopic nephrectomy
  • Open nephrectomy when needed

Urologic Cancer

Comprehensive Urologic Cancer Care

Planned care includes evaluation and treatment of prostate, kidney, bladder, testicular, and other urologic cancers. Depending on the diagnosis, treatment may include robotic or minimally invasive cancer surgery, endoscopic procedures such as transurethral resection of a bladder tumor (TURBT), and office-based intravesical therapy such as BCG.

Most urologic cancer evaluation and treatment can be provided locally. Selected patients with advanced or complex disease who need a higher level of care, such as radical cystectomy or specialized multidisciplinary treatment, will be referred to an appropriate tertiary care center, such as the University of Iowa, based on their clinical needs and preferences.

Urinary Incontinence

Selected Male and Female Treatments

The first step is identifying the type and cause of leakage. Planned procedural options include:

  • Male urinary sling
  • Female urinary sling
  • Urethral bulking, including Bulkamid and other injectable treatments

Artificial urinary sphincter placement and pelvic organ prolapse surgery are not part of Dr. Stahl's planned services. Patients who need those procedures will be directed to an appropriate specialist.

Appointments and Availability

Dr. Stahl joins Great River Health on September 1, 2026 and will begin accepting new patients in September. The Urology team can confirm current availability and scheduling when an appointment is made.
