My Training and Expertise
In September 2026, I will join the Urology team at Great River Health in West Burlington, where I look forward to welcoming new patients.
I am excited to return to Iowa, where I completed six years of urology training at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, finishing in 2009. I trained alongside Louis Kantzavelos, MD, and we became close friends. Although our careers took us in different directions, we stayed in touch and periodically talked about working together again.
Returning to Iowa feels like both a professional and personal homecoming. I am grateful for the opportunity to once again care for patients in the state where I trained and to work alongside a longtime friend.
I have spent much of my life in New England. I am a Boston native, attended the University of Vermont, and earned my medical degree from Boston University School of Medicine. Before returning to Iowa, I practiced in Maine and Connecticut, providing comprehensive urologic care including robotic, laparoscopic, endoscopic, and open surgery.
I have served as Chief of Urology and Director of Robotic Surgery, but I do not believe surgery is automatically the right choice. Every patient is unique, and I believe patients deserve to understand what is happening, why a test or treatment is being considered, and which trade-offs matter. I work in partnership with my patients to choose a plan that fits their health, priorities, and life.
Outside Medicine
My wife and I met as teenagers while working as lifeguards at a YMCA summer camp. In many ways, we grew up together. Along the way, we raised two great kids who are now young adults. Watching them grow has been the most rewarding part of my life. The time we’ve shared as a family has shaped who I am as a person and as a doctor.
I enjoy the activities that bring us together and keep me balanced. My wife taught me to ski when we were students at the University of Vermont, and we later taught our children. I have been scuba diving since high school, and diving has also become a family activity. I enjoy boating on Long Island Sound, traveling, and exploring the outdoors. I also have a habit of slipping in a corny joke now and then, and I rarely say no to good ice cream or a freshly brewed cup of coffee.
